Man critical after clinging to capsized boat in Shannon for two hours
- 27-year-old man is in a critical condition in hospital after he was rescued from the River Shannon at Castleconnell, Co Limerick.The man, who is from the local area, was submerged in water for more than two hours after a five-metre boat capsized plunging him and three others into the water.The four men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were clinging to the boat which became trapped in debris and branches from a fallen tree, making the rescue operation extremely difficult.
- Limerick Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at 'World's End' Castleconnell at around 4.30am.It is understood emergency services struggled to reach the man. He was rescued at 7am and brought to University Hospital Limerick, where he is in intensive care.
- The three others are in a stable condition and being treated for hypothermia at the hospital.
- Gardaí are investigating the incident.
